A man who was killed following an early-morning robbery was identified yesterday as Tim Vanderbosch, a physics and chemistry teacher at Eldorado High School.
Students were informed of the death during the day and given a letter to bring home to their parents.
Police said Vanderbosch was hit by a white Nissan Maxima with possible damage to its front while he walked to work near Washington Avenue and Betty Lane.
Witnesses who called police said Vanderbosch had been attacked and beaten by several Hispanic males before being accidentally run over by a car passing by, police said.
That motorist stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, police said.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found Vanderbosch lying in the westbound lanes of Washington. He was transported to University Medical Center where he died of his injuries, police said.
The white Nissan had been linked to a robbery reported shortly after 2 p.m. at Lake Mead Boulevard and Los Feliz Street.
A man and woman told police they were forced out of their car at gunpoint and robbed by four Hispanic men.
The same men were linked to three other robberies, police said.
“These individuals showed a wanton disregard for human life,” police spokesman Bill Cassell said.
Police described the men as four or five Hispanic men in their early 20′s. They are believed to be driving a white four-door compact sedan, possibly a 1998-2000 Nissan Maxima, with unknown license plates.
