Sometime before Pitbull takes over the Red Rock Ampitheater on August 10th, he’ll head north to Alaska…in part because he was the victim of a prank.

Three weeks ago, Walmart started a promotion, Pitbull would visit whatever Walmart store in the U.S. got the most “Likes” on its Facebook page. A writer named David Thorpe, who writes for the “Boston Phoenix” and the website SomethingAwful.com, thought it would be funny if the Internet teamed up to send Pitbull to the most REMOTE Walmart possible. So he rallied his readers to “like” the page for the Walmart store in Kodiak, Alaska . . . which is on a small island off the southern part of the Alaskan peninsula.

Thorpe’s readers responded. The Kodiak Walmart page ended up with more than 70,000 likes, which was more than enough to win the contest . . . and now, Walmart kept its word. Pitbull is heading to Kodiak, Alaska. All things considered, he took the prank pretty well. “I heard that Kodiak, Alaska has the most likes due to someone who thinks he was playing a prank. But you gotta understand, I’ll go anywhere in the world for my fans.” He also invited Thorpe to go with him, and Thorpe accepted the offer.

They’ll be headed to Alaska at the end of the month.
