The UNLV Cheer & Dance teams headed to Orlando, Florida with the hopes of making their presence felt at the 2015 UDA/UCA College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championships, and they did just that!
For about 9 months out of the year, close to 50 girls on the Cheer and Dance teams at UNLV are held to the highest standards of excellence in the classroom, and on the performance floor. Yes, we see them at football and basketball games performing at every game smiling bigger than any one in the complex regardless of weather and score.
But the part many fans don’t see is what the girls are proudest of: preparing for a National Championship.
Each year both the UNLV Cheerleaders and the UNLV Rebel Girls attend competitions, with this year being the first in a long time that both teams attended the most prestigious of these competitions: the 2015 UDA/UCA College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championships.
For the UNLV Rebel Girls, this was a well-known stomping ground, having been there 6 of the last 7 years. Last year’s squad pulled a 3rd place finish in the Division 1A-Pom division, and a 2nd place finish in Hip Hop, losing by only a TENTH of a point.
This year, the girls are coming home with 2nd place finishes in both divisions, marking the highest ranking UNLV has ever received in the Pom division!
The UNLV Cheerleaders, who have attended different competitions in past years, attending UCA this year and pulled a 7th place finish in the Division-1A All Girl division, which is the highest they’ve ever received in the UCA National Championship!
A big congratulations goes to all of these girls for all of their hard work, determination, and endless energy put towards the preparation, perfection, and execution of their routines, all on top of full-time loads of classes, work out sessions, and rehearsals.
That being said, if you see a member of either of these teams, be sure to give them a high-five and a congrats! GO REBELS!
