As with every awards show, there are the winners, the losers, the good guys, and the bad. Along with those, there are good speeches and bad. This one though, seemed to have taken the cake…
J.K. Simmons, known for roles in shows like “Law & Order“, commercial appearances in the “Farmers Insurance” commercials, and appearances in movies from “Spider-Man” in the past, to more recently: “Whiplash”, won the award for Best Supporting Actor at the 87th Annual Academy Awards on Sunday night.
While I personally haven’t seen Whiplash, I did see his acceptance speech. More often than not, these speeches are filled with names we’ve never heard of that helped in acquiring that particular award. But in Simmons case, he chose to name a few of the people who have helped in in acquiring his entire life: his wife, and children. Check it out:
This speech, in the course of about 90 seconds or so, led to many phone calls and messages (yes, I got one from Mama Jersey) filled with “I Love You”‘s, well-wishes, and probably comments of “Wow, we should really call each other more!”
So, in my opinion, while he was clearly considered to be the best in the supporting actor category, he was for sure the best in the acceptance speech category! Great job, J. Jonah Jameson!
