Phife Dawg passed away on March 22 2016 from complications from Type-2 diabetes. He was only 45 years old. His sudden death was a shock to hip hop fans everywhere but some good news for those fans looking for away to remember the late rapper Phife Dawg. The co-founder of A Tribe Called Quest will be honored with a street named after him in New York where he grew up..
That’s right Phife might be getting a street named after him!!
Phife’s management team has confirmed that New York Mayor, Bill de Blasio, is signing a bill to have Linden Blvd. and 192nd street renamed to Malik “Phife Dawg” Taylor. The block that is being renamed in the late rappers honor is the place that the group rapped about on their classic song, “Check the Rhyme.” It was there that Phife and his friend Q-Tip formed the now legendary group, along with Jarobi White and Ali Shaheed Muhammad.
It’s pretty dope to see and as a fan of the group I’m happy Phife Dwag’s memory will live on in the same place he began to live his dreams. Look for the official announcement of the street renaming on August 3rd
