There’s a new political campaign called “Save the Day,” encouraging America to show up on Election Day. It has a ton of celebrities, so it’s like a new ‘Rock the Vote’-type of thing.
It was started by Joss Whedon, the guy behind “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”, “Angel”, “Firefly”, and the “Avengers” movies. And he got a, “[crap]-ton of famous people” to do one of those montage videos where each contributes to the message, in this case voting.
They don’t mention Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump, but since Hollywood is generally liberal, the overall vibe of the video is that we need to ‘Save the Day’ from a Trump presidency.
It definitely has its funny moments…and it ends with a fake promise that Mark Ruffalo will do a nude scene in his next movie.
They shot a bunch of these videos…but since they’ve only released one, it’s unclear what the others will be like, and if they’ll involve the same celebrities. All we know is that the others will have the same loose, irreverent tone.
The “crap-ton of famous people” in the first one include: Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Julianne Moore, Keegan-Michael Key, Don Cheadle, James Franco, Jesse Williams, Cobie Smulders, Martin Sheen . . .
Neil Patrick Harris, “Hamilton” star Leslie Odom Jr., Nathan Fillion from “Castle”, Clark Gregg from “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”, Jesse Williams from “Grey’s Anatomy”, Taran Killam from “Saturday Night Live”…
Yvette Nicole Brown from “The Odd Couple”, Tom Lenk from “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”, Bradley Whitford from “Transparent”, Matt McGorry from “How to Get Away With Murder”, Randall Park from “Fresh Off the Boat” . . .
Ashley Johnson from “Blindspot”, and Stanley Tucci from “Fortitude”.
