Chet Buchanan is the host and creator of 98.5 KLUC’s Chet Buchanan and the Morning Zoo! Since it’s inception in 1999 it has consistently been one of the highest rated and most beloved radio shows in Las Vegas. In addition to anchoring the morning show, which he was named “Best of Las Vegas” by the Las Vegas Review-Journal for, Chet can be seen just about everywhere in Las Vegas.
Many Las Vegans know Chet from his work on the court at UNLV Runnin’ Rebel Basketball games, appearing as a frequent contributor on Fox 5’s “More at Four,” or holding down a packed schedule hosting multiple corporate, civic, and charity events.
Chet is also the brains behind the annual Chet Buchanan and the Morning Zoo Toy Drive, where he lives and broadcasts live on top of 30 foot scaffolding for 12 days straight to raise toys for thousands of Las Vegas children. Since it’s inception, the 98.5 KLUC Chet Buchanan and the Morning Zoo Toy Drive has grown to become recognized as “The World’s Largest Single Location Toy Drive” and in 2010 filled (14) 50 foot semi trailers, as well as collecting over 2,000 bicycles, and raising over $145,000 in gift cards.
The first script for “E.T.” was a horror movie. Steven Spielberg decided he liked it better as a family movie . . . and that horror script was rewritten to become “Poltergeist”.
You might remember a viral photo the circled the internet in 2005 of a little girl being saved and hugging a military man in a uniform. The man in that photo is Mike Maroney, and he’s an Air Force veteran who suffers from PTSD. Since Maroney rescued LaShay Brown and her family almost twelve years ago, he’s been deployed twice and carried that photo with him everywhere he went. Through social media, the two have been reunited and Maroney says that she saved him more than he saved her… Now, both LaShay and Maroney talk every week and she’s taking him to the school ball!
